About Jake

I started learning to code in 1992 and made software professionally from 2006–2026. Having beat the game, now I explore. This blog is a selection of whatever that turns out to be: code, math, game design, writing, building things, and anything else that catches my attention. There is no main plot, only side quests.

Who am I? Why read this? It feels strange to toot my own horn, but here are a few nice things people wrote to me.

You're cool. And you know a bunch of cool stuff.
You taught me how GADTs work and also prompted me to buy Cosmic Encounter.
I have a somewhat mythological impression of you as a paragon of melding the arcane and the pragmatic sides of programming.
You had that combination of humor/playfulness/composure/compassion that always made me feel welcome and empowered to grow.

Anyway, that's what some people have said about me. I hope that I live up to these kind words. Join me on my side quests.
